Leah Warman is a professional tubist and trombonist based in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. A well-rounded low brass musician capable of performing a wide variety of genres and styles, Leah has performed professionally with musicians such as Phil Simms, Bobby Floyd, Dave Stryker, Kyle Swan, and Luke Gillespie, and has recorded for the likes of C. Alan Publications, Tom Johnson Big Band, and for her own debut jazz trombone album, Marigold. She performs with various ensembles, such as the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, Tom Johnson Jazz Orchestra, the Dan Nix Big Band, the Indianapolis Wind Ensemble, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. Amongst her career as a freelance artist, she has notably recorded for the Emmy-Award-winning PBS national television tribute to guitarist Wes Montgomery, and has performed as the Guest Clinician for the Northrop High School Jazz Festival. Leah’s dedication to the mastery of both classical tuba and jazz trombone makes her a uniquely in-demand brass musician and educator.  

 

Leah received her B.M. in Tuba Performance from the University of Alabama and her Double M.M. in both Tuba Performance and Jazz Studies at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She studied with professors Daniel Perantoni, Sergio Carolino, Wayne Wallace, Brent Wallarab and Dr. Jeremy Crawford, and has developed her teaching and performing career throughout the course of her degrees. As an educator, Leah has taught at a variety of institutions such as Interlochen Center for the Arts, Thompson High School, Roncalli High School, Alabama's Community School of Music, the National Enrichment Group, and her private studio.

Leah's research article entitled "Gender Discrimination in Jazz Historiography: Women Instrumentalists Post WWII" was accepted for publication in Volume 6 of the Jazz Education Research and Practice Journal. She hopes to combine this and Marigold into a portfolio that will both educate and inspire. Leah is an advocate and believer of being a well-rounded musician and hopes to continue contributing to her communities through music!
